The origins of Tavira date back to the 8th century BC as it was one of the first Phoenician enclaves to be found on the Iberian Peninsula. This is a town that over the centuries has been conquered and reconquered, with both the Romans and Arabs leaving their imprint on the city, leaving a heritage of ancient walls, monuments and exceptional building that can still be seen today.
